Andrew Vidal Memorial Scholarship

A Scholarship to students needing assistance for higher education - In Honor of Andrew Vidal

Andy Vidal
Andrew Lee Vidal was born in Hastings, Nebraska. He was a feisty little guy when I (Keith Vidal) met him at age of 5, after he and his mother had moved to Lincoln where she was pursuing higher education. Rebecca married Keith Vidal in November 1985, making Keith an instant Dad. And Andy was his boy. In 1986 Andy’s sister, Danielle, arrived. In early ’87 the whole family picked up and moved to St. Louis, MO. Life was grand! Throughout grade school, junior high (middle school), and high school Andy excelled without too much effort. He was an antagonist at heart, but that is what made him lovable.
He pursued engineering at UMR and eventually graduated with a degree in ceramic engineering. Andy moved to Wisconsin in 2002, with his dog Max, after getting a job with Cardinal Float Glass. His best buddy Joe Steck moved to Wisconsin with him. He loved working at the plant and the people there loved him as well. It was his new home and he quickly became an asset and was on his way to a successful career. He bought a nice car and a fast motorcycle. Life was good.  As smart as he was, some poor judgement led to his untimely death. He was with 2 friends as he drove his car home after partying one night. Somehow he lost control of his car on the way home, and of the three people in the car, he did not survive.

About the Scholarship
Andrew Lee Vidal pledged Sigma Pi Fraternity in his first semester at the University of Missouri - Rolla (now known as Missouri University of Science & Technology). During his five years at Rolla, Andy served the Alpha Iota Chapter as Pledge Trainer and as a leader to many. He had one of the biggest smiles of any brother, friend, or son, and will be missed dearly by all who knew him. He died in a car accident on the morning of Sunday, November 9th, 2003.

In Andy's name, we have started an annual scholarship to help bring some light to this tragedy. Those of us who remember him wish to have Andy’s legacy live on perpetually through a scholarship fund that would make him proud, and provide assistance to deserving students.

All monies generated and donated to this fund are used to seed a foundation that currently provides two scholarships, awarded annually to high school seniors (attending college immediately after graduating HS), or students attending an accredited junior college, community college, or university. The award is based on the accomplishments of the individual who exemplify the characteristics of service and academic excellence. Our goal is to raise enough to perpetuate an annual award to benefit young people in Andy’s name.

The scholarship application deadline is June 30th every year. Click on the link for more information and to download the application. Andrew Vidal Memorial Scholarship Application.
